Hey Local Farm Lovers!

FINALLY we are starting a BLOG! I have been so busy playing in the dirt that I didn’t realize that this is really what I wanted. We hope to keep you updated on what is going on around here.
Our Farm is located ALMOST to Gasconade County line, but we are in Franklin County. Not far from Hwy 185 and 50W Our Farm house is 134 years old and was built by the family who owned the original homestead that Beaufort was built on. It was looked at to be placed on the Franklin County Historical List but was by passed due to too many updates. We have been trying to return it to it’s period glory by exposing floors, replacing fixtures and we frequently raid local homes that are being torn down for materials for it and for our barn. We have 22 acres. Probably 6 of it is in production. We grow Cut Flowers, Christmas trees, tomatillos, 30 varieties of tomatoes(the plants of these available in the Spring) and value added products from the above list. We are also quite well known for our granola- this year we hope to grow our own pumpkin and sunflower seeds for this product. Of course at the top of the list is Sam’s Famous Salsa.
Our goal is for the farm to be self sufficient in the next year. We have longed told a joke(borrowed from famous pig farmer, Kelly Klober) that Bill works so that I can farm…with the automobile industry being what it is, we plan that when that is no longer an option that the farm will be able to run full circle on its own. We plant so that our animals and ourselves may be able to eat, our animals eat so that they may provide us w/meat and eggs, compost and manure so that we may plant, care for them and continue the cycle. Our sheep keep all but our front yard cut and our chickens and guineas pickup the bugs that eat the garden and the parasites that plague the sheep and the dogs that guard our livestock. Even that cats pitch in to keep the vermin in check. Everyone works. The bible says (paraphrased) that he who does not work, does not eat. That’s the premise on which our farm revolves. If it’s not useful, there’s no room here.
My husband Bill and I have been married 15 years. While this is my dream, he works hard to help me achieve it. He puts up w/a lot of bossing from me because he is muscle and I am the detail. We both work hard, but there is much that I cannot do. We both trust in God and I thank him for how I am blessed everytime I walk out on my porch for this wonderful life that we have.
Proverbs says ” He that tills the earth shall be satisfied w/bread”…I have so much more.

Hope you’ll be patient w/me while I put this all together
